Science gone wrong

Dag twee in dit gekkenhuis. Het werd liefdevol een huis voor 'peculiar children' genoemd, maar eerlijk waar, het was gewoon een plaats waar ze alle idioten dumpten, zo ook Mindo. Ze had nu al een jongen zien verdwijnen, een meisje zonder moeite de lucht in zien vliegen en een gozer tegen gekomen die kennelijk iets met zout kon, ofzo. Het was allemaal vaag en waar het meisje eerst had gedacht dat zij de gek was, bleek dat hier helemaal niet het geval te zijn. Eerst had ze nog gedacht dat ze misschien toch aan de verkeerde drank had gezeten, maar inmiddels zou dat al uitgewerkt moeten zijn. Het was allemaal echt, kennelijk. Ze wist nog steeds niet precies wat ze er nu van moest denken, maar echt zin om de hele dag enkel op haar kamer te zitten had ze niet. Buiten was verboden toegang, want er liepen een of andere gekke monsters rond. Dat was haar meteen al verteld, maar eigenlijk had ze daar schijt aan. Eerlijk, ze waren hier met allemaal gekken met krachten onvoorspelbaar voor normale mensen, wat voor monster zou hun nog iets aan kunnen doen? Toch was ze de dag ervoor met boze blikken terug gekomen omdat ze toch weg was gegaan naar het strand. Dus vandaag hield ze zich voor sier maar even koest. Ze had sowieso nog het grootste deel van dit gekke huis te ontdekken, dus waarom ook niet.

De bovenste verdieping kon ze afvinken, die had ze inmiddels al gezien. Niet heel veel bijzonders was daar te vinden, enkel een heel stel idiote kinderen in hun kamers, samen met wat toiletten en douches. Nu was de eerste verdieping aan de buurt. Er was momenteel een film bezig waar ze niet binnen in wilde vallen en in de speelkamer klonk vrolijk geschreeuw van kleinere kinderen, dus dat waren no go's. Dan maar de bibliotheek, ze hield toch van boeken en de rustige atmosfeer die vaak in bibliotheken hing. Dat was echter niet helemaal het geval hier, want het moment dat ze de deur open wilde duwen werd er een staal roodachtig schuim haar kant op geschoten. Geschrokken stak ze haar handen uit, waar ter verdediging een reeks vlammen uit schoot. Misschien niet het slimste idee om te doen bij een chemische reactie, maar hey, ze had toch nog nooit van haar leven een voldoende voor chemie gehaald. Het meisje had geluk dat de deur als een soort schild had gewerkt en het meeste van het schuim had opgevangen, want het roodgekleurde goedje stond nu in de hens. "Shit!" bracht ze, samen met een reeks andere scheldwoorden, geschrokken uit. Waarna ze een al even vurige blik naar de jongen wierp. "Doe dan iets, idioot!" Wat hij zou kunnen doen? Eh, ja, wist zij veel. Hij had haar bespoten, hij mocht het ook zelf opruimen.

Menig mens zou haar bestempelen als een pyromaan, en menig mens had het niet fout. Toch, vuur was en stuk interessanter als ze het zelf onder de controle had en niet de deur voor haar snufferd aan het afbranden was. Ze wist het vuur wat te bedaren met haar gave maar kon het onmogelijk laten stoppen, waardoor ze zich kwaad tot de ander richtte en die niet al te vriendelijk toeschreeuwde om haar te helpen. ”Eh.. Eh…. Ja!” bracht hij uit, waarna hij dan toch eindelijk vanachter zijn kast vandaan kwam. Na een of andere stille hocus pocus had hij het vuur zo uit. Poef, klaar, weg. Mindo knipperde even verbaasd met haar ogen en tuurde om de deur, waar het bruine schuim nu aangekoekt aan het lichtelijk verschroeide hout. Ze had zich kwaad tot het schuim persoon gericht als ze niet even heel erg onder de indruk was. Zijzelf kon enkel vuur oproepen wanneer ze wilde, het doven ervan was echter een ander verhaal, terwijl deze jongen dat schijnbaar moeiteloos wist te doen. Gewoon poef. ”Gaat het?” Oh ja, hij was hier ook nog. Ze keek hem wat geïrriteerd aan. "Yeah, alleen is dit wel een heel warm welkom," bromde ze duidelijk slecht gehumeurd, waarna ze dan toch eindelijk de bibliotheek helemaal in durfde te stappen en naar de lichtelijk geroosterde deur keek. Wel shit, ze was hier net nieuw en door haar toedoen was nu al een deur gesloopt. Lekker was dat. Haar blik ging van de jongen naar zijn gekke buisjes en andere onzin, waarmee hij kennelijk dit schuin had laten ontstaan. "What the hell man, zover ik wist was een bibliotheek niet echt een plaats waar je dagelijks beschoten zou moeten worden met schuim," Hmpf, wat een bende. Mooi niet dat ze dit op ging ruimen. "Wat probeerde je überhaupt te bereiken met die onzin?" ze keek naar de gekke buisjes en andere glazen potjes op de tafel. Wat een nerd.

Hoewel haar opmerking meer humoristisch dan verwijtend was, bood de jongen meteen hakkelend zijn excuses aan. Wat een pushover, was hij zo tegenover iedereen hier? Of werd er hier simpelweg van je verwacht dat je netjes en beleefd was? Zoja, dan zou ze snel buiten de boot vallen, met haar onbeleefde manier van doen en vuil taalgebruik.
Nu de rust enigszins leek te zijn wedergekeerd kreeg ze de kans om haar belager wat beter te bekijken. Hij leek van haar leeftijd met donkere haren en zijn geslacht ergens lastig te schatten. Haar gedachtes gingen echter uit naar de glazen buisjes en potjes voor zijn neus, waarna ze hem afvroeg wat hij nu precies probeerde te bereiken met zijn chemische geflik vlak. Op die vraag haalde hij enkel wat luchtig zijn schouders op. ”Er is niet bepaald een laboratorium hier om dit soort dingen te doen”, Verdedigde zichzelf zwakjes en vrij beleefd. Mindo snoof, yeah, dat was waar. Toch, kon je niet beter buiten een bende maken? Anderzijds snapte ze ook wel dat hij hier veel dichter bij de informatie zelf was. ”En ik oefen mijn peculiarity” Het duurde even voordat het kwartje viel. Oh, dus zo noemden men hun freak-gaves hier; peculiarities. Heel spannend en chique. "Yeah, ik zou nog wel even door oefenen,"mompelde ze, waarna ze wat van de restanten wegstapte en de bibliotheek begon rond te kijken, beginnend bij de boekenkast vlakbij hun beiden. Met haar rug naar hem toegekeerd en haar hand op de kaft van een van de boeken sprak ze verder. "Wat is je 'peculiarity' überhaupt? Een nerd zijn?" Ze grinnikte zachtjes om haar bijzonder kinderachtige grap en draaide haar hoofd een kwartslag om, om hem plagend aan te kijken en zijn reactie te peilen. Hoe ver zou ze moeten pushen totdat hij van zich af ging bijten?

Mindo could imagine them being annoyed by her very childish remarks, yet they didn't act upon it. The stranger was still as calm as ever, even if they were in any way agitated by her presence, she couldn't have been able to tell. Something that slightly bothered her, were they really this calm? Or did they do this on purpose, knowing it would frustrated her? Sometimes the girl wished her peculiarity would let her read the minds of others, it would have made everything a whole lot easier. ”Ehm, not really. I just rewrite the composition of certain elements to evoke chemical reactions”, They replied. ”I can also rewrite DNA and manipulate the laws of physics”, Yeah, that just sounded like a whole bunch of nerdy bullshit. Mindo frowned and turned around, leaning against the bookshelves as she looked them in the eye. "Yeah, right..." she replied, clearly not understanding anything they were just saying. She had never paid any attention at elementary school and dropped out of high school at the age of 16, which was why she was so badly educated about these kind of subjects. It wasn't even that she was particularly stupid, the girl just didn't function properly in a school-like surrounding. Her dyslexia made everything twice as hard and all the teacher bossing her around drove her crazy in no-time. Mindo wasn't one to sit still obediently and quietly listen to someone talk all day long. "So, you can like, turn water into ice without freezing it, and stuff?" Honestly, that was pretty cool, yet she surely wouldn't such a flattering thing out loud, so she just scoffed quietly. "You're basically a science teacher's worst nightmare," She would have done anything to show them to her old science teacher. The old man was always so sure about 'the laws of physics' and how they could never be broken. Well, this would be living proof he was wrong. "Is that a common 'peculiarity' here, then?"

They nodded again as a reply. ”Yes, and make things explode” they added with a grin on their lips. Her eyes lit up as they said that, since exploding things was something she found to be quite satisfying. Not as much as setting things ablaze, but it came close. She couldn't help but wonder what else they were capable of, if they could mess around with the very basis of everything, which where the tiny little floating balls she thought were called mole-cubes, or something, they would be able to do anything. Right? If you change the basis, you can change the whole thing. If that was true, there were endless possibilities. Both gruesome and funny. Mindo imagined them walking into a church and turning all the water into wine, while showing off his middle fingers and proclaiming they were pieces of shit. That would have been one epic way to use their powers. Oh well, they seemed much to polite to do such a thing, but if Mindo herself had had that power, she surely would have.
The short girl looked them in the eye and stated that they must have been a science teacher's worst nightmare. They chuckled before replying. ”Maybe I am. Mostly miss Bluebonnet’s biggest nightmare though”,She couldn't help herself but quietly chuckle as well, whilst looking at the burned door. "Ah, don't worry, It was a pretty ugly door anyway," She joked and then asked them if there were more freaks with powers like theirs around here, by any chance. ”I don’t think it is, things like shapeshifting and devil-ish things are more forthcoming in this loop”, Oh, so it was. Mindo frowned. "Well, I guess that makes me a basic bitch amongst peculiars," Everyone always told her she had been an outcast, an underdog with strange powers, yet apparently most peculiars here were much like her. Mindo wasn't too sure what to think about that, yet she wouldn't let that ruin her mood right now. She crossed her arms and looked at the strangers. " Since I can shape shift into a canine, and manipulate fire into doing what I want, if fire is devil-ish enough," She grinned. Even though she was still a bit flustered about the foam attack, they were much too interesting to stay mad for long. It also may have slightly helped that they weren't that bad looking. Eh. "I'm Mindo, by the way," She finally introduces herself.

Since she hadn't been here for long, most of the peculiarities of the freaks walking around here were still unknown to her. She knew Jinn had something to do with snakes and this kid could mess around with a science teacher's head, but that was about it. When they explained that most people here were either shapeshifters or something devil-ish, she was quite surprised. Well, apparently she wasn't even that special around here. Mindo made a remark about it and had a vague grin on her face. In the outside world, she was a freak, a god, a witch, a whatever. But here? She was just Mindo, one of the many freaks walking around. Damn. "I wouldn't say you're basic though, in one way or another, we're all special," She chuckled softly. Special bla, bla, bla. Mindo could appreciate the way they tried to cheer her up, it was sweet, but also a bit naive, if you'd ask her. "Yeah yeah, we're all special lil' snowflakes here," Their words didn't convince her, but she wasn't moking them for it either. There were 7 billion people on this globe, what were the odds you were still an orignal? Once she read that there were about 7 people that looked exactly like you. And apparently a lot of Mindo look-alikes wanted to gather around here. Oh well.
Mindo introduced herself to them, since they both seemed to have forgotten to do so. "I'm Adonai, It's nice to meet you," They smiled the way a little kid would when given candy, which was kind of cute, in a way. "Yeah, I guess it's nice meeting you too," Except for the part where he attacked her with foam, but hey, there were worse things that could happpen, right? "So, have you been in this freakhouse for long?" She wondered, not really sure what else to say. Her social skills were below average, but they had to give her credits for trying.

She managed to cool down a but, fascinated by the person in front of her. ThIer powers to just magicly let her own fire dissappear. Well, damn. She could conrol fire, or at least, she'd like to believe she did. When it can down to it, she could only start them. Small fires, big fires, whatever she wanted to. However putting out the fires she created, really wasn't as easy for her as it was for this person here. They disn't really seem impressed by their own powers, nor by her snarkly remarks. Mindo decided to give them another chance, even though they nearly spat foam in her face a little while ago. Instead she tried starting a conversation and soon found out that their name was Adonai. Adonai. A nice name. Mind asked them if they'd been here for long, to which they nodded. "I think it's been two years, or longer" Damn, two years. She wondered how, hoe he could live the same day in the same house with the same people for more than 730 days."It's fairly nice here, if you get used to the occasional well.. Foam exploding in your face",  she couldn't help but chuckle softly at his words. "Well if that's the worst that will happen here, I think I'll manage," her eyes dropped to the ash-grey door. The heat had made some parts of the paint come off. "Just hope there are no securty cameras around here, 'cause I ain't paying for that door," she laughed softly. Nobody would have to know.
